Key Requirements for TV Channel Registration
To register a TV channel in India, several criteria must be met. Here's a breakdown of the essential requirements:
Processing Fee:Â A non-refundable processing fee of Rs. 10,000/- must be paid at the time of application submission.
Registered Company:Â Only companies registered under the Companies Act 1956 are eligible to apply.
Net Worth Certificate:
For News & Current Affairs channels, the applicant company must have a net worth of at least Rs. 20.00 Cr.
For Non-News & Current Affairs channels, the required net worth is Rs. 5.00 Cr.
Audited Balance Sheet:Â The company must provide an audited balance sheet for the last three years.
Satellite Bandwidth and Uplinking Agreement:Â An agreement with a Teleport Service Provider for satellite bandwidth and uplinking services is necessary.
Project Report:Â A detailed project report of the channel or company must be submitted.
Details of Directors:Â Full details of all directors associated with the company are required.
Performance Bank Guarantee:
For News & Current Affairs channels, a performance bank guarantee of Rs. 2.00 Cr. is required at the time of obtaining permission from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB).
For Non-News & Current Affairs channels, the guarantee amount is Rs. 1.00 Cr.
Annual Uplink Fee:Â An annual uplink fee of Rs. 2.00 Lacs must be paid when obtaining MIB permission.
Annual Downlink Fee:Â A downlink fee of Rs. 5.00 Lacs per channel per annum is also required.
